Never Patient

[Insecurity - II]

I would never criticize a nest-bound chick for not flying like an eagle.

I wouldn’t consider writing a review of a manuscript in its first draft.

I don’t judge the architecture of a building when it’s a mess of rebar, concrete, and raw material.

But I do this to myself!
It’s my insecurity.
And it strikes early and often.

Insecurity is never patient.

The chick eventually becomes a high-soaring eagle; the rough draft will be a polished, bound book; the rebar and concrete will become a beautiful, state-of-the-art high rise.

Anyone on the creative journey—that’s all of us!—knows that making, building, fashioning, or creating takes time. Judgment must be suspended. What is beautiful emerges. Slowly.

We, too, emerge (and become more beautiful).
But insecurity would have us come to a conclusion now.
