Brave Decisions Accordingly

[Fear - V]

Remember sitting around the fire at summer camp talking about your fears?

One kid said public speaking, another said failing in school, and another might have said sharks or drowning. Typical stuff. One brave soul might have admitted fearing being seen in their underwear. (High-five to them for being brave enough to admit it.)

And then, there’s the one kid that said, “Psh, I’m not afraid of anything!”

The kid that appeared so tough . . . yeah, he is the most afraid. Maybe not of sharks or public speaking, but he’s at least afraid of admitting he’s afraid. And that’s fear at its most powerful.

The fearless person is not without fear. There’s no such person. The fearless person is well aware of the fear he faces. The fear is not a barrier or blockage but a compass. It’s not a demon to be exorcised or barrier to be obliterated, but an insight to be gained.

The fearful person tries to get around the fear rather than through it.
Tries to throw it rather than hold it.
Tries to lie about it rather than listen to it.

The fearless person, fearlessly acknowledges fear and makes brave decisions accordingly.
