Still Warm
[Notes to Self – X]
There’s something I’ll never forget about chicken.
If I go to the supermarket right now and pick up a pound of meat it’s cold and packaged. But if I go outside and harvest one of my chickens, it’s without a package (obviously). But there’s something else that's dramatically different than if I buy it at the store. The meat is warm.
I’ll never forget the first time I felt the warm flesh of a chicken. From life to death to pot to plate. Never a chill; never a fridge or freezer.
The entire experience is different. The connection with the bird. The taste and texture. Top to bottom, the whole cooking and eating endeavor is turned into a full body experience. I can’t have it any other way.
We must create the kind experiences that we dream are possible in the world. The change we are called to is not the result of "good" ideas but the consequence of feeling and tasting something different.
Don’t wait for the change. Create the small part you are responsible for. It’ll be warmer and more impactful.
