Pebble in a Shoe
[Small on Purpose - IV]
The most tender location is not where skin is exposed, but where skin is most protected.
Consider a pebble in your shoe. Though small in size, behind the protection it feels massive. And painful.
Notice I said “pebble”.
Not “boulder”.
Not “rock” or “stone”.
The challenge is to get behind the protection. Stay small. The bigger the rock the harder time it has getting behind the protection, underneath the guard, inside the wall.
Staying small affords us the chance to do the kind of work that truly touches the most tender part of people’s lives.
