Kinetic Knowing

[Knowing & Doing - I]

Do you know the physics of how a bicycle works? Some do. I just know it does. It has something to do with momentum and balance. Fact is, I just know how to do it.

Do you know the chemistry of frying an egg? Some do. I just know roughly the heat I prefer, and the time it takes to cook it to over-easy. I don’t use a clock or a thermometer. I just know how it works.

So much of what we know is in our hands, our legs, our bodies. Not really in our heads.

Physical repetition is a better teacher than cognition, sometimes.
Doing something over and over is often a better teacher than gathering information.

Might this apply to doing good work?
Mastering a craft?
Becoming an expert on that one thing?

Over and over and over again, with excellence, until it’s mastered, until you’re an expert, until it’s second nature and you can expect it of yourself.

That’s kinetic knowing.
That’s bodily brilliance.
