Hurry Up!
[Farm Thoughts - II]
You’ve never heard a farmer say to her crops, “Hurry up.” That’s because, of course, a farmer has never said that to her crops.
Crop growth is subject to a lot of factors—all of them slow down the process. The growth rate can be optimized, even pushed to its very limits with artificial lights and other creative efforts. But plants do have limits. And yelling “Hurry up!” doesn’t help.
What you may have heard a farmer say is, “Wow, that was fast.” Even while natural limitations on the speed of growth “make” the crops grow slower than we want, a before-and-after picture always makes the process seem faster. (This works with kids over summer break, too.)
While slow, growth in nature never stops.
If you want your thing, your project, your undertaking to “wow” you, yelling at it to “Hurry up!" won’t work. Plug away. One day. Then two. Do the work, day in and day out.
You’ll be surprised by the growth when you look at the before-and-after pictures.
