Wood Grains
Anyone who has worked with wood can tell you: Using a saw is dangerous.
Common knowledge suggests cutting against the grain is the most dangerous. The likelihood of the saw “catching” or
“kicking back” is the highest when it meets the resistance of grains going the opposite direction. Alternatively, cutting with the grain is more safe.
Not the case.
Against the grain, while running the risk of “kickback”, is steadier and safer.
With the grain? There’s no telling where the blade will end up, as it’s subject to the slight turns in the wood structure (particularly with a circular saw).
You choose.
Go with the grain, which is believed to be safer but is more dangerous in the end. Or, go against the grain, holding steady and staying your course.
H/T to Signal vs. Noise for this line of thinking.
