Speeding

From here to downtown, it’s a 14 minute drive. That is, if I drive the speed limit.

If I’m in a hurry, and I drive 20 mph over the speed limit, I can shave off 3 minutes, maybe 4. That’s assuming I don’t get stuck behind a slower vehicle (add 2 minutes), hit a red light (add 2 minutes), forget something at home because I was in a hurry (add 5 minutes), or get pulled over (add 15 minutes).

I admit: speeding pays off under very rare circumstances.

Mostly it increases anxiety, is less efficient on fuel, risks getting a ticket, and doesn’t get me to my destination significantly sooner.

This is true for your morning commute and life.

It’s true about driving into town and effecting social change.

It’s true about running errands and leading people.

Stop speeding.
