Achievement vs. Advancement
You might be the first hit for a Google search for, say, "self-driving lawnmowers".
You may sell more of them than all your competition in the world.
But someone, somewhere is making a better one in her garage, this very second. Guaranteed.
Today’s achievements are great. Tomorrow’s advancements are better.
In a day (or less), achievements become what we talk about as we look in the rear view mirror. They are relics of the past. They are artifacts of winning former competitions. Looking forward, there are no achievements, only problems to be solved, advancements to be made.
That’s why your marketing slogan (or your life motto) should never be, “We’re better than them”, but should always be, “Here’s a new problem; we have a solution”. And then tomorrow, it should be, “Here’s a new problem; we have a solution better than the one yesterday”.
This is true for your company, your church, your neighborhood, your family, your personal life.
