Starvation
We’ve all heard, scientific verification aside, that if we skip a meal or two our bodies “click" into "starvation mode". Food might arrive in an hour, but our bodies experience food-less-ness as the new normal.
Our minds do this too. The big challenge, the new level of stress, the discouraging week: we tell ourselves it’s permanent. It’s the new normal. And we prepare for it, as if it will last forever. Because we really think it will.
But it won’t.
The stress will dissipate.
The starvation will end.
Unfortunately, if we get off the bus now—to alleviate the discomfort that is temporary but feels like forever—we don’t get through to the other side. And it’s the other side that proves to us that the season of hardship is worth it. It’s the other side that gives us perspective, strength, wisdom. It’s the other side that builds resilience.
Your purpose, your call, your mission will always include these seasons. Without them, it wouldn’t be your purpose because anyone could do it.
But it you get off the bus now, dear friend, we all miss out!
It’s not permanent.
You won’t starve.
