It’s Always Been This Way

Here’s why “It’s always been this way” is not only untrue, it’s the most potent form of external discouragement: It’s a triple lie that is hard to disprove.

• • • Lie #1: X has always been. Almost nothing has always been the same, let alone exactly the way it currently is. Bogus.

• • • Lie #2: X has to continue. Just because some of us fear change, doesn’t mean things shouldn’t change. X doesn’t have to continue.

• • • Lie #3: There are no alternatives to X. Suggesting there are no alternatives is both a lack of imagination and a black hole for hope.
