Being the Best
What does it take to be the best? The best baker. The best investor. The best lawyer. The best artist or cabinet builder or author. Here’s what being the best is not:
-
-
- It’s not being the best at what someone else does. That’s energy lost. Futile.
- It’s not being the best at what you don’t want to do. You’ll only frustrate yourself.
- It’s not even being better than everyone else in the world at what you do. No one is, really. (Don’t leave yet.)
-
Here's what being the best is:
-
-
- Being laser-specific at what you do (so you don’t confuse it with what others are doing, even if they’re similar).
- Being confident in what you do (which is about knowing yourself and being a student of your craft).
- And here’s the kicker: knowing who it is you serve (so you aren’t being the best for the wrong people).
-
In other words, being the best requires knowing your gift you bring, knowing how it differs from others’ gifts, and knowing to whom your work matters.Time spent on these is never wasted.
