On Leadership #3

"Leadership is the art of EMPOWERING OTHERS to do the work only they can do."As it turns out, leadership has very little to do with the leader, per se. It has to do with the person the leader leads.Who’s on your wing, in your branch, in your tribe, on your team, on your floor, in your club? It doesn’t matter if it’s 5 or 500 or 500,000. What matters is that leadership is not about you but about them. They have bought in. They’re showing up. Now, good leadership is not primarily about rallying the majority of them toward a shared mission. That’s important, but not the most important. What’s most important is turning the traditional current of power around and giving it back. What’s their role? How can you resource them to do it better? What’s their gift? How can you highlight that more? What’s their influence? How can you equip them to grow it?What’s their purpose? How can you help them discover, clarify, and activate it?The primary trait of good leadership is the relentless commitment to helping others show up with their most passionate, powerful, grounded, and healthy selves today. And again tomorrow.
