Blind Spots

They're called blind spots for a reason. You can’t see your own. What you don’t see—about yourself, about the world, about whatever it is you are blind to—you also don’t know you can’t see.By definition, we’re blind to our own blindness.Unless someone points it out. At which point, you don’t see it clearly as much as you see where it is not—just an idea of what’s missing. The challenge is not to find someone that can help you see what you don’t see. People really get a kick out of pointing out everyone else’s blind spots. Just ask around. They may not take you seriously at first. But when they do, your list of what you don’t know, don’t have, or can’t do will grow. The real challenge is to find people committed to holding your hand as you try seeing and understanding the unseeable. This is difficult—both because it takes a long time to develop that vision and because addressing those blind spots is a team sport. We need each other to do it effectively. We can only see, understand, and address our own blind spots in a community committed to this process.Who’s in your community?Who is helping you see what you are blind to?Who is enabling you to discover what you otherwise never would?
