The Virtue of Busy

[More on Work – II]

You’ve likely heard the adage, “If you want something done, ask the busiest person you know.”

What does that mean? People that are busy are motivated, efficient, and calculated. Mostly, they just have other things to do. Someone that has the least to do, has the least motivation to do the thing you want them to do.

If I have a date at 7pm, you bet I’m gonna get things wrapped up by 6pm.
If I have to pick up Little Johnny at 4pm. I’ll be finished by 3:30pm.
Adult soccer league? Yeah, I’ll get it all finished in a hurry, so I don’t miss my game.

Busy bodies are not what you want, but people with lives outside of work are. Hobbies, interests, passions, commitments, side hustles, etc., not only contribute to better work, they contribute to more interesting people.

What does this mean for people like us? Doing other things doesn’t detract from your important job; it contributes to it by virtue of tightening up your schedule, offering motivation, and keeping things in perspective.
