Filling the Vacuum

[Gathering - III]

The guy that is good at everything. Even things he’s never done.

The lady that has helped start 15 successful companies. No failures.

The couple that is happier than they have ever been and can’t stop talking about it.

The young comedian that tries all his new material out while you listen (without laughing).

The old person that still blames everything on Obama.

The young person that blames everything on Trump.

In a leadership vacuum, silence is awkward but not strategic. Someone will always step up to lead. Often it’s the wrong person with a knack for talking (i.e. filling the silence).

As leaders, don’t give the perception that there is a vacuum—unintentional, empty time and space. If we do, we’re effectively handing the reigns of the gathering over to whoever has the least self-control.
