Priest, Pastor, Preacher
[Missing Middlemen - III]
Historically, religious leaders were go-betweens. They stood in the gap between the Holy and mundane, between the Divine and common folk. “Stood in the gap” has meant everything from offering sacrifices, intercession and prayer, translating ancient holy texts, or teaching.
Sacrifices, in a traditional sense, have ceased.
Prayer has become colloquial. (And my friend can do it for me.)
Translations are found online.
And the best religious teachers have all written books, recorded podcasts, and can be followed live.
What’s left?
If you don’t have an answer, your answer (and the pastor’s role) is effectively “Nothing”.
