I always like stories of encounters with the Divine. Like angelic visits. Spiritual warfare. Audible voices from above.

No one ever goes to visit an angel; they always come here.*

No one goes to some supernatural other-land to fight spiritual battles; they are always fought here.

No one goes to a phone booth in the sky to get a call from God; the voice always comes here.

There’s a preoccupation, it seems, by the supernatural for the natural. Not the other way around. What is it that angels, God, or any other spiritual “being” knows that we don’t? The work worth focusing on, the place that really matters, the bodies and homes and communities of real value, are all here, in this time and space.
