Boiling Pot
[Emmaus Lessons - II]
Pretending the hurt doesn’t exist doesn’t save us from the hurt existing. It merely comes out in different ways.
There’s a laundry list of coping mechanisms if you're interested in learning how you might be trying to cover up what’s happening under the surface.
I do know this: hiding from your hurts—by working longer hours, staying busy, exercising more, numbing, whatever—is always temporary. They are like a boiling pot. No matter how hard we push the lid down, the steam is going to find a way out. And it might get messy.
You are no less a radical if you hurt.
You are no less a creative if you have wounds.
You are no less an advocate or organizer or innovator or futurist if you still have “stuff” to work through.
Remove the lid.
Attend to the pot.
