Weekly Roundup: Avoiding Distractions

Dec. 9 - Dec. 14, 2019

Monday: What maintenance do you need to do today so you don’t spend an hour stalled on the side of the road of progress tomorrow? Distractions are often a choice. Before the engine light turns on.

Tuesday: Be leery of any inquiry that begins with “I wonder what’s happening…” and ends with searching your favorite news site or app. Your attention is too valuable to scroll headlines that have been curated specifically to keep you scrolling.

Wednesday: Without prioritizing, the to-do list can become a "what-can-I-do-when-I-don’t-want-to-do-what-I-should-be-doing" list.

Thursday: When we leave the front door to our attention wide open, anybody can walk right in and sit on our sofa. Nobody can ignore someone in his living room.

Friday: Being critical is often a sign you’re not doing the work, that you’re still sitting on the couch. While it doesn’t necessarily inhibit you from the work, it distracts you from realizing that you’re afraid to take the risk of getting up.

Saturday: While the negative voice beats us up, the distracting voice trips us up. Both seem to have similar goals: keeping us from what we know we should (and can!) do.
