Transcendence
[On Not Killing Creativity - XI]
The fastest way to destroy a child’s inherent creativity and dreams is to, in your mature, grown-up way, say things like this:
“Stop being idealistic.”
“We know that’s not true.”
“Science suggests otherwise.”
“It’s never been proven.”
“That’s just make-believe.”
The same is true for adults!
All of reality is shot through with transcendent light. Those that are set on deflating dreams are the same people to dismiss idealism (because it’s “unrealistic”). And they are the same people that strip our mundane reality of transcendent sparks, heavenly break-ins, and divine presence.
Creativity is access to transcendence.
Take it away and the world becomes flat, monochromatic, and predictable.
Nurture transcendence and texture, color, and possibility abounds.
