Be an Executive
[On Not Killing Creativity - IV]
Committees are important for broad-based buy-in and collective oversight.
Roberts Rules of Order is needed for procedural consistency.
Majority votes are critical for democratic processes.
While they are absolutely necessary under certain circumstances, they are ultimately about order and control, common denominators and averages, group think and institutional norms.
In other words, they have the ability to bring creativity to a screeching halt.
Give yourself permission to be an executive. Make wild decisions without consultation and without due process.
Be spontaneous.
Be in charge.
And give your spirit the space to wonder, to dream, to play, to make mistakes, and to create.
