"It’s More Complex”
Want to know something that is universally true but rarely helpful?
“It’s more complex than that.” Of course it is! That’s always true. And it’s usually unhelpful because it sows seeds of doubt that you’ve sufficiently “thought through” your project, your launch, your thing.
Feedback on where your project may need nuance or insight or details is only helpful if it’s specific.
General critiques about complexity, without real examples, is useless. That’s why the enemy voice says it.
It’s cheap.
It’s easy.
And it hurts.
The lie behind “It’s more complex than that” is this: “More time will make your project more fool proof." It can always be more complex, more dynamic, or more nuanced. But more time often means more delay, more procrastination, more doubt.
If you hear “It’s more complex” without specific details, it’s likely the enemy voice.
It probably means it's time to launch.
