What Are You Wearing?
Sartorial choices matter. That’s a new word: Sartorial. Adjective: related to tailoring, clothes, or style of dress.
Your sartorial choices send a message. They tell the world something about you.
“I value matching.”
“I spend time at Gap and wear seasonally appropriate clothes.”
“I take my job seriously; I want to look professional.”
“I don’t care what I wear" (but I care enough to make my clothes communicate that I don’t care).
“I’m athletic" (or artistic or thrifty or sophisticated).
“I’m wealthy" (or middle class or whatever).
Your clothes matter, but the message is never, “I wear this because I like it.” That’s probably true, but your motives and your messages aren’t the same thing.
Your sartorial choices are a reminder that communication is a fraction verbal and even less internal motives.
How and what we communicate to the world is part of the future we are creating.
You only have so much of someone’s attention; every message matters.
