Blogging Reflections: Part 1
Six reflections about blogging 180 days in a row:
-
- Writing is first an exploration. An exploration to try to see things for what they are. Up close. Accurately.
- Because it’s an exploration, it always marks a path of discovery—entering without language and hoping to come out the other side with something that is intelligible.
- Writing in public (i.e. publishing) is an act of humility. Clicking “publish” once takes courage. Clicking “publish” 180 times still takes courage.
- Any time writing sounds pretentious, showy, or overconfident, it is. (And I'm beginning to believe it’s indicative of a lack of understanding or even a hidden insecurity. I’m guilty of this at times.)
- Writing every day is a habit. Somewhere it went from “Do I have anything today?” to “Which thing should I write about today (or tomorrow or the next day)?”. The former wonders if I have anything to say; the latter wonders how to narrow down all the things I could say. Habits are their own type of affirmation loop.
- There is a correlation between feeding my curiosities (i.e. reading, learning, being challenged) and my writing output. As my “intake" increases, so does my writing, though they often have no clear association with each other. The mind needs fuel to be healthy and productive.
My daily offering is always on Facebook.
If you prefer Twitter, it's there, too.
And, obviously, it’s at my blog. (You might be here already.)
Or, if you like it hand delivered, you can get it in your email inbox. (Haven’t sent any spam yet. Never will.)
